Why you should donate sperm
Having a family is something most people dream of, and while most of us get the chance to create one without the need for external help some are not so lucky.
Around 17% of couples will face infertility issues, with some men being the problem, making it nearly impossible for some couples to have a biological child of their own. In addition, same sex couples that yearn to have a child cannot achieve this without the help of a donor.
Donating sperm gives people who would otherwise not have a chance of experiencing the miracle of life the chance to do so. Despite this being the case, the UK has faced a shortage of sperm donors. This has meant that there are long waiting lists of thousands of people who want to have a baby but can’t.
The lack of UK sperm donors has also resulted in us having to import sperm from outside the UK. This makes the process of donating a much more expensive one for those wanting to make growing their families a reality. And as will all know not everything works out the first time around, potentially increasing the costs exponentially.
Previous successful donation drives have shown that it only takes a few hundred sperm donors to help elevate demand, with each donor being able to help up to 10 families.
The odds of a human being born are one in 400 trillion; meaning each and every one of us has beaten the odds to be here. Giving the gift of life will help others beat the odds too.
Becoming a donor means you would be helping thousands of people across the UK and around the world start the families that they can only dream off right now.
